PROJECT 52 | WEEK 45: f/16

Hi all and welcome to project 52, that is reaching really close to its end! I have enjoyed every little bit of it. I have to admit sometimes I felt like giving it was such a bit commitment, I wanted to give up! I am glad I didn’t because I am very proud of myself! If you wanna see the entire sequence of weeks, click HERE and enjoy!

Today’s theme is f/16. If you are a photographer or interested in photography, you will know exactly what this theme is about, but if you are the one who puts your camera on auto mode, and chase your kids…..why do you care for “f” whatever….

Guess what? the f (whatever) is very important in photography. On a simple manner, it is the number that determines how much light can get into your camera sensor. The smaller the number f/1.4, 1.8, 2.0 lets more light in your camera as opposed to f/16 for example. Maybe you don’t really care about all this and there is a whole explanation on wikipedia if you are really interested, but for us photographer, the output is very important. What changes on the picture when you have a picture takes on f/1.4 and at f/16? The depth of field or bokeh or the blurry background…..a focused subject will have out of focus background  when shot at f/1.4 and will have everything focused and clear if shot at f/16. So if you see pictures like THIS and wonder how do you get this effect on the image (is it photoshop?……nope!) now you know is the f stop’s fault! So the conclusion is: f/16 is not a portrait photographer’s best friend. We don’t care about the background….YOU are the important thing in the picture!

And today featuring my new addition, the “shootsac” @ f/16!

Now go ahead and go check what Roses and Rattles Photography, Central New Jersey got for us this week!
